Creativity + Sustainability

Hi, I’m Cori (she/they).

projects

creativity + sustainability

  • soulful, sultry, sullen stories in song.
    cross genre writer
sometimes working solo at the piano,
sometimes playing with a 7 piece band.

  • when your career gets shuttered because of a pandemic and you lose your source of income + inspiration… obviously the next logical step is buying an island in the middle of an urban area that used to house a mill and getting real creative to remodel it into an eco home and restore the land to a native nature and watershed sanctuary.
my adventures in this major sustainable home design, ecological gardening, land stewardship undertaking + using it educate + inspire.

  • sometimes achingly sad + vulnerable.
sometimes ridiculous retellings of a day in the life.
    jaded. funny. hopeful. enraged.
enjoying the art of storytelling, winding emotions around words, + as a professional ruminator, it’s been suggested i should get it out of my head and onto a page.

  • Sustainability is community care.

Native plants, land stewardship, restoring + protecting ecosystems is community care. Mutual aid is a critical way of moving in the world as we fight against the systems threatening life, stability, + safety for our earth and our humanity.

Through this mutual aid project, I hope to share that love + care amongst my community. The Bloomfield Native Seed + Plant Bank provides free native plant seeds + plants to residents in my town along with education about native plants, sustainability, water + land stewardship and more.

My ask of residents who participate is 3 fold:

    1) that once their native plants are established, that they too offer their seeds + spare seedlings for free to their neighbors in town.

    2) that folks do their best to continue learning + putting into action sustainability practices they are able to do in their own homes + gardens

    3) that folks remove invasives from their yards whenever possible

Through this program, I hope to help my local community establish a healthy ecosystem map across our town and bring more awareness + accessibility to sustainability + environmental movements. Small actions can change the world- even in our own homes and yards.

sustainable living

  • 1st gen-kid reuse skills + OG thrifter.
fascination with old stuff + beautiful things.
    aesthetic, but second hand.
    lifestyle, but soul-crushingly conscious.
make it fashion…but make it kind.

do you want to talk about all things sustainability all day in a fun little neurospicy rant?

    great, me too.

  • Perched on the edge of our private nature sanctuary, above the brook below, tucked away in its own little oasis, is our little midcentury cottage known as Otter Falls Inn.

The first thing I remodeled when we came to our new home- using sustainable design + practices, this beautiful, comfortable space loves to show folks what’s possible with small homes + environmentally responsible practices.

We love hosting folks to come reconnect with each other, themselves, nature, or their own creativity in this lovingly restored, cozy cabin.

Support My Work

Whether a lover of the creative arts or deeply passionate about grassroots conservation, stewardship, + sustainability education and mutual aid efforts,

patrons like you and support from my community enables me to:

  • provide free and low cost educational programming

  • run the free native seed and plant bank

  • further conservation efforts and habitat restoration efforts, pay folks to help with invasive removals, and buy plenty of poison ivy wash for myself when, without fail, I end up with a rash after removing the millionth burning bush this week

  • provide invasive removal trainings to other landscapers

  • attempt to rescue and make safe historical structures (so far without finding funding from historical groups)

  • make any kind of meaningful art and beauty in this world

  • survive the polycrisis as someone particularly outspoken

I’m used to doing a lot with a little (and unraveling/fighting our learned go-it-alone culture isn’t always the easiest). And, to be clear, I’ll keep doing everything I’ve been doing above regardless of support…

BUT- doing my work to support my community of humans and nature while actually being able to pay my bills, afford health insurance, pay my doctor’s bills even though I already paid for insurance (as someone with a chronic illness, there’s many), and stay fed sounds good to me.

I know we’re all in different sized boats trying to stay afloat in these times. If you’re in a bigger boat and would like to become a supporter, or if you’re in a little boat and want to support in non-monetary ways, here are great ways to do so!

Volunteering your time, labor, or skills is an awesome way to support! If you’re interested in volunteering to assist at the nature sanctuary or with other conservation projects, I’m always looking for helping hands for invasive removals and watershed clean ups. Other help I’m looking for: help with the seed bank, photography, social media + marketing. If you think you have a skill you’d like to lend, reach out and connect!
